Hello to you, wherever you are in the world!

Books

The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry: How to Stay Emotionally Healthy and Spiritually Alive in the Chaos of the Modern World by John Marc Comer. The title is a mouthful, but the book was an easy to read collection of wisdom gleaned from Jesus and His teachings. Comer, a pastor, dives into what made Jesus great and encourages us to use the same system to stay sane in our modern era. He distills everything down to this, “The mind is the portal to the soul, and what you fill your mind with will shape the trajectory of your character. In the end, your life is no more than the sum of what you gave your attention to.”

It seems simple, yet we frequently misuse our time; scrolling endlessly, worrying about things out of our control, multi-tasking, and basically not being present. For the antidote consider: What would Jesus do? (Hint: He would keep the Sabbath!)

This book was nothing “new” or “revolutionary”. The ideas of Sabbath and connection have been around for centuries. But Comer’s take on the utility of the Sabbath as a restorative balm to the soul has me thinking I might need to reintroduce Sabbath observance as part of my practice. 24 hours with no phone is both scary and comforting. Who’s with me?

Beats

Ethiopian pianist Girma Yifrashewa’s My Strong Will is magical. Play it on repeat! I can’t get enough.

Barbells

Current Kettlebell routine is a heart pounding workout that you can personalize. Go moderately heavy for 6 repetitions or use lighter weight for 15 repetitions of each exercise. 2-4 sets depending on your goals and how much time you have to play around. It’s a solid routine.

Swing, Halo, Thruster, Batwing Row, Step-back Lunge

Peace and love,  Kit
