Get Lit – Bes of October 2024

Hi, friends!

Books

One of the benefits of teaching English is the simple fact that I have an excuse to read everything I can get my hands on. This month, I decided to take a chance and read Michael Crichton’s Prey, coupling it with Jonathan Haidt’s book The Anxious Generation. I had nightmares. Essentially, we have unleashed technology without having any basis for setting realistic expectations regarding how it will turn out. It’s all an experiment, and a rapidly advancing one. We don’t really know the ramifications. Maybe the machines are self-leafring and we are just a few steps away from annihilation. Or maybe we will all be enslaved (many of us already are). I’m rambling, but only because these two books scared the sanity out of me.

Beats

Chris Stapleton’s song popped on my new favorite country station and I decided to watch the video – which made me cry because it was so human (and that’s something we are losing with the machines). Watch this amazing love story and tell me what you think. I Think I’m in Love with You. (For more with Chris Stapleton, I recommend his performance with Patti Loveless You Don’t Even Know Who I Am. The words. The voice. The humanity.)

Barbells

This month I completed another round of 10,000 kettlebell swings in 10 days. 30 pounds, in 26 minutes. Feeling strong and ready to start training for the 5k Thanksgiving Turkey Trot! I’m starting with 1 minute walk:1 minute run for 20 minutes twice a week. What are your fitness goals looking like? You don’t need to wait until January first to start your journey!

Peace and love,
