Get Lit – Best of September 2025

Hey everybody!

Books

I’ve noticed that my little students have the uncanny ability to live in the moment. They are inconsolable one minute when they think they’ve lost their lunch box, and skipping down the walkway when they realize it’s attached to their backpack. These little munchkins don’t hold grudges either. Whatever happened yesterday, stays in yesterday.

In an effort to better understand that flexible mentality, I read one of their popular Manga comics, Unico: Hunted. The story centers on Unico the unicorn, who is dropped into an unfamiliar world without the memory of his previous life, and ultimately saves humanity by forging an alliance with the Fey. Although everyone (human and Fey alike) celebrates Unico’s heroic victory, he is despondent and asks, “How do I know I am a hero? I don’t even know who I used to be…before all of this.” This is a profound question for a children’s book, and begs the question: does it matter who we were before as long as we are living truthfully now

I don’t have an answer. What are your thoughts?

Beats

I’m readying myself for upcoming performances of the Jerusalem Ballet in Florida and decided to listen to the classics. The Prague Cello Quartet has a stunning rendition of Phantom of the Opera that I currently have on repeat.

I enjoyed this edition of Eric Cressey’s podcast., Pinch hit Friday: Hierarchy of Recovery Main takeaway, condensing stress can be beneficial for recovery. If you’re already working out, stay in the zone for another set/exercise so the next day you can fully recover with mobility or cardio.  This concept applies to more than just the weight room!

Peace and love,
