Get Lit – Best of September 2023

Hello again!

The weather in New York is getting crisp. I love it. It’s invigorating.

Books

This month I reread The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. It’s one of those works that I read every few years to remind myself of truths I know in my heart, but forgot in the course of the routine of life. The story is framed by the speaker who is returning to his homeland. The Prophet is his farewell to the people who served as his temporary community/family. We often lean into honesty and goodwill in our final moments – if only we could learn to love and give with this same generosity and candor while we had more time.

One of his magnificent poems from a separate work is resonating:

During the ebb, I wrote a line up on the sand,

Committing to it all that is in my soul and mind;

I returned at the tide to read it and to ponder upon it,

I found naught upon the seashore but my ignorance.

Beats

Taking Back Sunday’s S’old is totally high energy and totally fun. We need more music like this.

Barbells

Talk about high energy, I’m still swinging and swinging hard. In honor of the mighty kettlebell, here is a throwback to some choreography with swings

Special note: I have been using IG stories to express some ancient wisdoms. Highly recommend checking them out @ brainy.barbelle if you haven’t already done so.

🙂

Peace and love,

Kit
