Hello friends!
Books
Oh, so many books!
The novel Theo of Golden by Allen Levi and The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, William Kamkwamba’s memoir coauthored with Bryan Mealer, are my top two picks. In both books, the protagonists move the story forward with their desire to contribute goodness, to create healing, and to right past wrongs.
As Theo points out, “There is no virtue in advertising one’s sadness. But there is no wisdom in denying it either. And there is the beautiful possibility that great love can grow out of sadness if it is well-tended. Sadness can make us bitter or wise. We get to choose.”
William Kamkwamba puts Theo’s philosophy into practice as he strives to build a windmill to ease the suffering after famine ravages his homeland in Malawi. The book reveals his genius and this video from the TED conference in 2007 reveals his humility and kindness. Take 3 minutes and watch it.
Beats
To connect with this month’s books, I recommend Lucius Banda’s wholesome video Kheliwe and Lasst mich allein, Op. 82, No. 1 by Antonín Dvořák!
Barbells
Eric Cressey put out a great “Pinch Hit Podcast” episode that is relevant for everyone, which is hard to do. Young people, should take note if they are interested in preserving longevity and us old-timers now know how to maintain longevity. As for “tickling” my workouts, I want to do 10,000 kettlebell swings in June. Anyone interested in joining?
Peace and love,
Kit
