It’s always interesting to see how books are adapted for the screen. A recent example of this is the mystery novel Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann, which she reworked for the big screen debut The Sheep Detectives starring Hugh Jackman. The original text was witty, deeply philosophical, and absolutely wonderful. It provoked questions about identity and destiny, and presented a refreshing perspective. The movie was fun and silly, an appropriate family flick, but it lacked the gravitas and nuanced introspection that seems to get lost in these film translations. (A similar loss detracted from the movie Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. The book is a classic. The movie simply couldn’t get into the characters’ heads.)
The Three Bags Full explores what happens when an individual decides to defy patterns and expectations. Breaking free is important not for the sake of resisting the group, but because this action can eventually lead the group to a new revelations, growth, and unity. I wonder, whom do I lead? Who leads me? Is this the way I want it to be?

I reintroduced cardio in high intensity bursts by running up and down the stairs three times between workout sets. Then I finished strong with 10,000 swings in 10 days. Cardio is fun!
