I overcommitted (no surprises there) and have been extremely stressed out for the past few weeks. While talking to my coach, I realized that a lot of my stress is all self created because I think everything needs to be handled immediately. Obviously, my focus for the next week will be: “Don’t invent unnecessary urgency.”
If you don’t know about “Urgency v Importance” check out Stephen Covey’s book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. And if you want to read more about how to redefine your stress so it can motivate you, check out this article. It’s framed in the context of students and the classroom, but we’re always learning and our environment offers endless experiences, so it’s relevant.
Malcolm Gladwell has faced some scrutiny over the years, but that doesn’t detract from the fabulous work he has done. Check out his podcast for an interesting new take on some (extra)ordinary events. You might want to start with “The Big Man Can’t Shoot”, although “The Blame Game” was also pretty interesting.
This week’s hip hop recommendation is Raw Proof. I actually listened to the whole album straight through. The last time I recall doing that was in 1992 when Tori Amos released Little Earthquakes.
Lastly, (if you don’t have equipment for my Get Fit with Kit routines) I’d like to recommend the 7 Minute Workout. It’s easy to make excuses, but it’s better to just do it. Check out the app and get ‘er done.
