‘Tis the season to share the love. Here’s what I’ve got:
Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg had me questioning what gender equality means. I’m not fully on board with all her sentiments, but I see the value of acknowledging the nuance and working to find meaningful ways for men and women to take positive leadership roles.
I wrote a piece about Sebastian Junger’s book Tribe. Similar to Sandberg, he points out what goes awry when the system fails us. I think it’s an important read highlighting how it’s not too late to turn things around and heal our society.

The music for this month is embedded in Jennifer Kent’s gutting film, The Nightingale. This historical portrait presented the worst of humanity as people use race, nationality, and gender to brutalize one another. It also shared the sweet pain that comes with the recognition that we have more in common than what is evident on the surface. If you have the stomach to make it through this film, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
