I don’t know about you, but for me, the weeks seem to fly by. Here’s how I’ve been keeping busy:
Books:
Volume Control by David Owen is a fascinating read that delves into the history of deafness and hearing loss. As an educator, there were several passages that caught my attention (one in particular relates to deaf children being labeled as mentally retarded or on the Autism spectrum because they were not meeting developmental milestones – obviously, because they couldn’t hear the instructions!). He speaks more about the topic of noise in this NPR broadcast.
Another riveting read is Radical: The Science, Culture and History of Breast Cancer. Kate Pickert chronicles her own experience and the shocking background to the treatments, and their subsequent advancements, in a what was a male dominated domain. This interview on Science Friday will give you a hint of what to expect in the book. The things women endured!
Sh!tting with Purpose is my most recent article. It’s A MUST read and is my best work to date.
On the workout front, I tried a low impact flow that was easy on the joints but got my heart rate up. Combinations like these are a great way to build flexibility and strength. All it takes is a little patience and a lot of practice.
And what to use as a soundtrack? I’m in love with this Billie Eilish acoustic. 6 Feet Under.
